The Community Visitors Scheme is of those great volunteer programs that cost hardly anything yet the payout for all those involved is significant and lasting. The scheme arranges visits between bilingual volunteers and elderly people from various multicultural backgrounds who are often isolated and lonely in nursing homes and aged care facilities.
In 2014 I was on a six-month secondment to the Sydney Local Health District as the Manager of Corporate Communications, and I was privileged to help the CVS team there organise their 20th anniversary celebrations. I designed and edited a commemorative book featuring photos and quotes from the volunteers that was given as a gift to each volunteer at the ceremony. I also helped organise the ceremony and wrote articles about the event for the SLHD website and staff newsletter.
Below are a few pages from the book. It was printed digitally with a spot varnish applied to the watermark of the CVS logo on each page.
